One of the most frustrating things that can happen to just about anyone is when their car breaks down while they’re on their way somewhere. The fact that most people don’t know much about how a car works and what could go wrong with it only makes the whole thing worse. It’s easy to get frustrated at a time like this and curse your car for not treating you right. However, the real question you should be asking yourself is are you treating your car right? Many people drive long distances every day and never experience any car troubles. Want to know why that is? The answer is pretty obvious, they take better care of their cars than you do. However, it’s completely understandable that you wouldn’t know too much about your car and what drives it. But no need to worry, let’s get you some basic know how about how you can keep your car in top condition for years to come.
First of all, it is important to understand that there is a lot that goes on in your engine; there’s a lot of moving metal parts that power your car. The most basic thing that you need to know about your car is that it needs two things to move, fuel and fresh air. That’s right, your car breathes in cold air which it mixes with fuel and then this mixture is compressed by your engine’s pistons and ignited, pushing the piston down and turning the crank shaft which will in turn rotate the fly wheel that collects to your transmission and ultimately to your wheels. That is the basic version of how your car is driven. What you need to make sure of is that nothing hinders this process. Do this and your car will drive smooth, fast and never fail you. As mentioned earlier, there are a lot of moving parts in your engine that rub against one another, this is why engine oil is as important as it gets. Engine oil is like lifeblood for your engine, it lubricates your moving parts and distributes the heat produced in the engine evenly, without enough oil your engine is likely to melt and break down.
It is advisable that you change your oil once every 5000 km driven since it starts gathering deposits from your engine. Fresh oil keeps your engine smooth, fast and clean. You would also be wise to get your engine inspected every once in a while and see if it requires a tune up. Your spark plugs won’t last for ever and your coils might need cleaning, not to mention, if you drive in a dusty area, your engine might be sucking in a lot of dirty air which collects in your intake manifold. You want this serviced from time to time. Another very important thing to take care of are your tyres since they are essentially what drives your car at the end. You want o make sure that you use high grade tyres with a good tread and grip. Old tyres are the cause of most fatal accidents. Keep your car maintained and drive safe!
